Scripture
Luke 5:12-16
  • Contagious compassion steps in where others step back.

Desperation (5:12)

  • Like sin, leprosy corrupts from within and eventually shows itself (cf. Lev. 13).
  • Sometimes desperation will drive you past protocol and toward Jesus.
  • Faith doesn’t question Jesus’ power; it appeals to His will.

Progression (5:13-14)

  • Jesus wasn’t hesitant to offer connection before cleansing.
  • Commandments followed cleansing, not the other way around.
  • Jesus prioritizes ongoing community, not just momentary relief.

Substitution (5:15-16)

  • When Jesus changes a life, news travels fast.
  • Jesus’ power draws crowds, but His compassion draws hearts.
  • Jesus took the leper’s place, foreshadowing how He would one day take ours.

  • The compassion that restored us now redirects us.
