Contagious Compassion
Jesus engaged and healed a man with leprosy, restoring him to community. We find our hope in a Savior who isn’t repelled by our condition.
- Contagious compassion steps in where others step back.
Desperation (5:12)
- Like sin, leprosy corrupts from within and eventually shows itself (cf. Lev. 13).
- Sometimes desperation will drive you past protocol and toward Jesus.
- Faith doesn’t question Jesus’ power; it appeals to His will.
Progression (5:13-14)
- Jesus wasn’t hesitant to offer connection before cleansing.
- Commandments followed cleansing, not the other way around.
- Jesus prioritizes ongoing community, not just momentary relief.
Substitution (5:15-16)
- When Jesus changes a life, news travels fast.
- Jesus’ power draws crowds, but His compassion draws hearts.
- Jesus took the leper’s place, foreshadowing how He would one day take ours.
- The compassion that restored us now redirects us.
