Contagious compassion steps in where others step back.

Desperation (5:12)

Like sin, leprosy corrupts from within and eventually shows itself (cf. Lev. 13).
Sometimes desperation will drive you past protocol and toward Jesus.
Faith doesn’t question Jesus’ power; it appeals to His will.

Progression (5:13-14)

Jesus wasn’t hesitant to offer connection before cleansing.
Commandments followed cleansing, not the other way around.
Jesus prioritizes ongoing community, not just momentary relief.

Substitution (5:15-16)

When Jesus changes a life, news travels fast.
Jesus’ power draws crowds, but His compassion draws hearts.
Jesus took the leper’s place, foreshadowing how He would one day take ours.

The compassion that restored us now redirects us.
