Liberating Adoption

We were enslaved to the ways of the world, but the Father desired to adopt us as His children. In Christ, we are free to live joyfully as the sons and daughters of God.

Scripture
Galatians 4:1-7

Observations

  • The law supervised our development and safeguarded our inheritance until we were mature enough to receive it (4:1-2).
  • We often stay trapped in striving—whether through rule-keeping or rule-breaking—to claim what God freely gives (4:3).
  • Jesus, both divine and human, entered history at the perfect time and fulfilled the law in the perfect way (4:4).
  • Jesus freed us from a religious prison and brought us to a forever home (4:5).
  • Jesus didn’t lay down His life so we could serve a distant deity, but so we could know a faithful Father (4:6).
  • Spiritual adoption welcomes you freely and secures your future completely (4:7).

Applications

  • Believe that Jesus came to do more than deal with your sins; He came to provide a family.
  • Prayerfully explore how your home can embody the gospel by welcoming children in need.
  • Reapproach God daily as your loving Father, not a distant guardian.
