Worthwhile Boasting

Instead of bragging about what we can do in our lives, we should focus on what Christ did through His death. The cross of Jesus is the only worthwhile boasting we should communicate.

Scripture
Galatians 6:11-18

Don’t Boast in What You Can Do (6:11-13)

  • Be ashamed of your frailty, and you might miss the ministry that comes with it.
  • Even religious peer pressure can drag you into spiritual compromise.
  • Selective obedience is just spiritual convenience in disguise.

Boast in What Christ Has Done (6:14-16)

  • The cross reminds us that we can’t and reassures us that Christ did.
  • God doesn’t want to upgrade the old you; He wants it crucified to make you someone new.
  • If you’re not at peace, maybe it’s because you’re still fighting the One who gives it.

Live as One Marked by the Son (6:17-18)

  • If you’re obedient to Jesus, you don’t have to be okay with everyone else.
  • You’re not following Jesus closely enough if you aren’t suffering because of it.
  • Boasting in the cross brings a unity that self-promotion never could.
  • If I’m going to boast about anything, let it be about Jesus.
