Jesus Loves Us to Death

Jesus commanded us to love our enemies and proved it on the cross. To follow Him means to love as He did, even when it costs everything.

Scripture
Luke 6:27-36
  • The worst way to celebrate Easter is to believe Jesus died and keep living like it doesn’t matter.
  • The gospel is about what was put to death and what was brought to life.

Commanding the Unthinkable (6:27-31)

  • Jesus commands a love that doesn’t make sense to the world and doesn’t come naturally to us.
  • Don’t give people what they deserve; give them what you would want.

Exposing the Unremarkable (6:32-34)

  • If your love only reaches those who love you back, it’s no different than the world’s.
  • Reciprocal love is common; redemptive love is Christian.

Displaying the Unimaginable (6:35-36)

  • Jesus did not just preach about loving enemies; He practiced it on the cross.
  • Christ didn’t just call us to love our enemies; we were the enemies He loved.
  • Only Jesus can turn enemies of God into children of God.

  • You can love your enemies in life because Jesus loved His to death.
