Here Goes Everything

Jesus announced His mission in His hometown, and the world was never the same. Following Him means saying yes to everything He came to do.

Scripture
Luke 4:14-30
  • The gospel doesn’t ask us to sample Jesus; it calls us to surrender everything.

Everything Jesus Revealed

  • Those far from Jesus proved more open than those closest to Him (4:14-15).
  • You can’t become like Jesus while remaining inconsistent in worship (4:16).
  • Jesus defined His mission by God’s Word, not public expectation (4:17-21; cf. Isa. 61:1-2).
  • Jesus would rather stay prophetic than be popular (4:22-24).
  • The grace of Jesus refuses to stay confined to expected people or places (4:25-27).
  • Jesus wouldn't die on a cliff when He was destined for a cross (4:28-30).

Everything It Reveals About Us

  • Justification: Salvation required everything from Jesus and nothing from us.
  • You can’t stay neutral about Jesus forever.
  • Adoration (4:14-22)  ←  Hesitation (4:22-27)  →  Rejection (4:28-30)
  • Hesitation about Jesus always moves toward adoration or rejection.
  • Sanctification: Because Jesus gave everything for us, He deserves everything from us.
