Right Regardless

Mordecai wasn’t afraid to do what was right or refuse to do what was wrong. Regardless of the consequences, we must resolve to do the right thing.

Scripture
Esther 2:19-3:6

Setup

  • A prideful king paraded his power, discarded his queen, and launched a search for another (1:1-2:15).
  • Behind every flawed decision by man, God was unfolding His providential design through Esther’s placement (2:16-18).

Situation

  • Discovery – Mordecai discovered a deadly plot and delivered a warning through his cousin Esther, saving the king’s life (2:19-23).
  • Defiance – Haman the Agagite was promoted, but Mordecai the Benjaminite refused to bow in compromise (3:1-4) [*Homework: Why are their clan names important?)
  • Destruction – Fueled by conceit and contempt, Haman devised a plan to destroy all the Jews (3:5-6).

Shadows

  • Mordecai’s act of integrity preserved a king, but it was God who preserved a people.
  • Mordecai did right and was spared; Jesus did right and was slain.

Significance

  • Do what’s right — Success is measured by obedience, not outcome.
  • Avoid what’s wrong — Compromise may feel convenient, but it always carries consequences.
  • Trust God’s outcome — Do what’s right and trust God with what’s left.
