- Herman Bavinck - "plan of ordering things to an end," that is, as that act of God’s intellect and will by which from eternity he ordered all things to an end ordained by him.
- Proverbs 19:21 - Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
- Even the drawing of lots is under God's control (v. 7).
- Proverbs 16:33 - "The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord."
- Our hate will always blind us to the plan of God and lead us to our destruction.
- Ecclesiastes 3:1&8 - For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: ...a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace."
- Hate will lead us to lie and manipulate for our own purposes. (v. 7–13).
- Jeremiah 29:4-7 - Build houses and live in them. Plant gardens and eat the produce. Take wives, have sons and daughters, take wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage. Let them bear sons and daughters. Multiply there; do not decrease. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare
- Hateful and indifferent actions lead to confusion and disorder. (v. 11–15).
- Genesis12:3 - I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse....”
Application
- Be careful of harboring hate toward others.
- 1 John 4:20 - If anyone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
- Learn to trust God regardless of your circumstances.
- Be careful who you hate.
- James 4:4 - Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?" Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
