Jesus resisted the enemy with God’s Word. Because He stood firm in our place, we can stand strong by rooting ourselves in Scripture before the battle begins.

Scripture
Luke 4:1-13
  • When the enemy sets you up to fall, let God’s Word set you up to stand.

Three Common Temptations

#1. Satisfaction (4:3-4)

  • Satan tempts Jesus to choose immediate gratification over patient dependence.
  • We are tempted to want the right things in the wrong ways.

#2. Significance (4:5-8)

  • Satan tempts Jesus to gain glory at the cost of obedience.
  • We are tempted to compromise conviction for recognition.

#3. Security (4:9-12)

  • Satan twists Scripture so Jesus will test the Father rather than trust Him.
  • We are tempted to demand proof rather than rely on God’s promises.

Three Important Reminders

  • Jesus’ victory over temptation qualifies Him to stand in for us where we have fallen.
  • We have an enemy who studies our weaknesses and targets them strategically.
  • Scripture memorized before the battle equips us when it’s time to put up a fight.
