The Pattern (8:22–9:2)
- Jesus has shown his power over nature, demons, sickness, and death (cf. 8:22-55).
- Jesus does not give us a relationship or show us his power for us to keep it to ourselves (9:1-2).
The Proclamation (9:3-9)
- Success in God’s mission is dependent on Jesus, not on what you possess (9:3-4, cf. Is. 55:1-2, Mt. 6:33, 2 Cor. 9:8).
- We are responsible for faithful proclamation, not positive affirmation or successful reception (9:5-6).
- What we do with Jesus affects how others see him (9:7-9).
The Application
- The value you place on your salvation affects how you view your mission.
- The one who gives us our purpose is the one who gives us his power (cf. Mt. 28:18-20, Mk, 16:15-16, Jn 20:21-23, Lk 22:35-26, Lk 24:44-49, Acts 1:8, Jn 16:7).
- You have all of eternity to be comfortable; don’t waste your life avoiding His mission.
