Treasuring God's Word

If you consider the Bible a hindrance from the life you desire, you will never value it accordingly. God’s Word is a blessing to apply and not a burden to avoid.

Scripture
Psalm 119:1-16

Overview of Psalm 119

  • With 22 stanzas and 176 verses, Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible.
  • This unique worship song is a Hebrew alphabetic acrostic where the same letter starts each line within a stanza.
  • From an anonymous author, we discover the Scriptures to be our definitive source for a joyful, obedient life.

Discover

  • Life is more enjoyable when we order our ways according to God’s instructions (119:1-2).
  • Scripture is not just information to be processed but instructions to be applied (119:3-8).
  • Scripture memorization can combat ongoing temptation (119:9-11).
  • God teaches us through the Scriptures so that we can share it with others (119:12-13).
  • If we slow ourselves enough to meditate on the Word, we will delight in what we discover (119:14-16).

Decide

  • Plan – Commit to a reasonable Bible reading plan that stretches you just enough.
  • Partner – Share your plan with at least one other person for accountability.
  • Pray – Ask God to teach you something before you start.
  • Ponder – Consider what needs to be memorized or applied.
  • Promote – Find some way to share what you discovered with some person.
  • Persist – Don’t give up when you mess up.

Memory Verse

  • I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you (Psalm 119:11).
