One Person Can't Do Everything, But Everyone Can Do Something

Some churches limp along trying to accomplish the mission of the entire church, relying on the 80/20 rule. The 80/20 rule implies that 20% of the congregation does the majority of the volunteering while the 80% sits back. This 80/20 rule is not a plan to accomplish the mission of the church. Instead, it describes a problem.  

A church is a body of believers who come “together” to accomplish the mission of the church. At Rocky Creek, we come together to teach preschoolers the primary tenets of the Christian faith, which will be further developed as they move through milestones in the kids and student ministry. We come alongside to support parents in discipling their children. We serve in adult ministry roles to mentor, care for our widows, minister to the hungry, support local ministries, and create pipelines for missions and ministries.

What we discover is that it’s not God’s plan for one person to do everything, but for each person to do something. A goal for each member at Rocky Creek is for each person to be successful in three areas of discipleship and ministry each week: Worship, Group, and Serving.

Take a look at the grid below, and work through the chart in this way:

• Select the time you can worship. (Be mindful that we are boldly asking that you move your worship to Sundays at 5:00PM if possible.)
• Select the time you can serve. (Know that you are likely committing to being church at least two different times a week since you can’t do three things in the normal two-hour slots on Sunday mornings.)
• Select the time you can be in a group. (Reminder: We desire to begin more home groups or to move Gospel Groups to Wednesday evening to allow leaders to serve on Sunday mornings.)

Together, we are on mission. We start locally in our own church. As we disciple the next generation, we are also sending future pastors and missionaries to the field to continue accomplishing the Great Commission. Thank you for making sacrifices for the Kingdom.
