Gospel Groups at Rocky Creek
On November 23, 2025, Rocky Creek begins a new two-and-a-half-year series through the Gospel of Luke. The theme of the series is “To Seek and Save,” highlighting both Jesus’ mission and our own. Alongside this study, we are excited to introduce a refreshed format for our Gospel Groups designed to help us better live out our mission together.
Why the Change?
For the past several years, our Gospel Groups have used Lifeway’s Gospel Project curriculum. With this new series, we are shifting to an application-based discussion format centered on each week’s sermon passage. Here’s why:
1. Transformational Discipleship
The purpose of Gospel Groups is transformational discipleship. Discipleship is learning to follow Jesus so that, over time, we look more like Him. Discipleship is more than gaining information. It requires obedience. It requires hearing the Word and putting it into practice. This new format will help us apply Scripture more effectively as we encourage, challenge, and lovingly correct one another.
2. Churchwide Alignment
Alignment allows our whole church to learn and grow through the same biblical truths each week. If a passage emphasizes forgiveness, imagine the power of our entire church family coming together to forgive those who have wronged us. Think of the reconciliation and restoration that could ripple through our relationships.
3. Missional Focus of Luke
Jesus clearly states His mission in Luke 19:10: “to seek and to save the lost.” Over the next two and a half years, we will fully immerse ourselves in this mission. Our groups will be filled with believers urging one another toward gospel intentionality. This shift has the potential to transform Rocky Creek and serve as a catalyst for gospel impact in Greenville and beyond.
What Is the New Format?
The new format is simple for leaders to follow while still offering the depth needed to guide meaningful, Scripture-rooted conversations. Every leader and member will receive a series guide (hard copy or digital PDF).
Each series guide includes:
- A place for sermon notes
- Discussion questions
- Passage insights
- Parallel passages
- Application questions
- Space for commitments
Leaders will also have access to additional resources to strengthen their understanding of the passage. This allows those with teaching gifts to teach effectively while equipping facilitation-focused leaders to guide strong, edifying discussions.
What About Family Discipleship?
One benefit of The Gospel Project was having families study the same Scripture together. We remain committed to encouraging discipleship at home, so the new series guide includes a weekly Family Worship Guide with:
- A fun, introductory family activity
- Insights to discuss
- Family discussion questions
- A prayer guide
- A link to a worship song
The guide is simple and easy to use. Any parent or grandparent can use it to spark meaningful spiritual conversations without needing formal theological training.
A Unified Resource for Discipleship
Our development team has worked diligently to create a rich, practical tool for leaders, group members, and families. Our prayer is that every participant grows in faith as these resources are used during worship services, in Gospel Groups, and in homes throughout the week.
