3 Creative Ways to Give
There are many IRS-approved ways to maximize your generosity while potentially increasing your tax benefits. Most importantly, these creative giving strategies can help you maximize your support for kingdom work.
Give Appreciated Assets
Instead of selling investments or property, consider donating them directly.
- Donate stocks, mutual funds, land, real estate, or other appreciated assets.
- Avoid capital gains taxes on the donated asset.
- Receive a charitable deduction based on the asset's current market value.
- Potentially combine with a donor advised fund described below.
Give from Your IRA (Age 70½+)
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows gifts directly from your traditional IRA.
- Counts toward your required minimum distribution (RMD).
- May reduce your taxable income.
- Can help lower taxes on Social Security benefits and reduce Medicare premiums.
- Allows 100% of your gift to support ministry.
Use a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)
A Donor-Advised Fund lets you make one larger gift for tax purposes while distributing gifts to ministries over time.
- Receive your tax deduction when you contribute to the fund.
- Recommend grants to charities whenever you're ready.
- Potentially grow your charitable dollars through investment.
- Provide consistent support to ministries year after year.
