How Jesus Fixes Our Failures
Jesus healed a boy whom His disciples could not help. Our failures are never final when we bring them to Him.
1. Previous victories can create misplaced confidence (9:37-40).
- God-given authority is never a license for self-sufficient ministry (cf. 9:1-2).
- The darkness we face demands more than the strength we possess.
2. Present failures can expose absent faith (9:41-43a).
- Jesus echoes an ancient rebuke for an enduring problem: God’s people still fail to trust Him (Deut. 32:5, 20).
- Spiritual darkness resists God’s rule; self-reliance neglects God’s power.
3. Deepest failures require a perfect sacrifice (9:43b-45).
- The heart that welcomes His help can still resist His authority.
- The Savior was delivered to death so that we can be delivered from death.
- Jesus fixes our failures by doing for us what we could never do for ourselves.
